Shailene Woodley

Shailene Diann Woodley (born November 15, 1991 is an American actress best known for her main roles in 'Divergent', 'Insurgent', 'Allegiant', and 'The Fault in Our Stars'


Shailene was born in Simi Valley, California and started acting at the age of five. She was raised by her mother Lori, father Loni, and brother Tanner. In 2004, she was nominated for a Young Artist Award (YAA) for her role in A Place Called Home as California Ford. She also starred as Felicity Merriman in Felicity: An American Girl Adventure for which she received a Young Artists award nomination. In her most well known role, Shailene played Kaitlin Cooper in the first season of The O.C.

Woodley has appeared in multiple episodes of Crossing Jordan as a young Jordan, as well as television series including Without a Trace, Everybody Loves Raymond, My Name is Earl, CSI, and Close to Home. In 2007, Woodley appeared in the television series Cold Case as Sarah Gunden, the murder victim's younger Amish sister, who originally brought the case to the investigators' attention.

As of 2008, Shailene Woodley starred in an ABC Family series The Secret Life of the American Teenager as Amy Juergens, who at 15 years old discovers she is pregnant.

After 'Secret Life', Woodley found breakthrough success in The Descendants, alongside George Clooney as Alex King. This is where Woodley also received critical acclaim, winning many awards such as a Golden Globe nomination for Best Supporting Actress- in a Motion Picture.

Including this, as of August 2013, she starred alongside Miles Teller as Aimee Finecky in the critically acclaimed film, 'The Spectacular Now', winning the Special Jury Award in the 2013 Sundance Film Festival and has been nominated for the Independent Spirit Award for Best Female Lead.

Following 2013, Woodley was cast in Veronica Roth's film adaptation of Divergent as the leading heroine, Tris Prior, early of 2014. Divergent found box office success, reaching the top spot in its opening weekend.

She will reprise her role as Tris Prior, in the second installment of the Divergent Series: Insurgent, the sequel to Divergent, set to debut in March 2015.      

Following Divergent, Woodley was casted to play Hazel Grace Lancaster in the film adaption of the young adult novel, 'The Fault in Our Stars' by John Green alongside Ansel Elgort as Augustus Waters; it was another film that has reached financial success, reaching the top spot in its opening weekend as well.

At the end of Shailene's breakout performances in the YA novel film adaptations, she starred in White Bird in a Blizzard, a drama thriller directed by Gregg Araki as Katrina "Kat" Connor.
